2 out of 5 stars Hot, hot, hot!   October 11, 2008

I purchased this for a 2.5 minibow aquarium and found that if you leave the light on ASWELL as the heater it can cause a BIG temperature jump. I mention this because my betta really got stressed from all that heat the first day - I think he got a little sick because of his clamped fins and lethargy the next day. So be careful that the heater doesn't overheat your aquarium/bowl. My idea is to leave it on at night and then turn it off during the day so that the light can maintain the aquarium at a few degrees lower, it's the best option without a 15 watt automatic shut off heater in a 5 gallon aquarium, which is probably what I will do when I can afford it next month! Good luck:0)

5 out of 5 stars Perfect heater   September 24, 2008
I have a 2.5 gallon acrylic tropical tank. I use this tank heater only in the winter when our ambient house temperature is lower. It does a stellar job keeping the water a steady 72 degrees.

It's small, easy to hide and reliable.

I highly recommend it for small tanks when only a few degrees increase are needed.

1 out of 5 stars Not the best heating solution for fish.   September 17, 2008

I bought a nice little Corner 5 from Eclipse and there was not enough space for one of the tubular heaters to go in there, so I purchased this one thinking that it might help and the temperature would not go past 70 after leaving it in there for a whole day. Keep in mind that I was cycling the tank and no fish were tortured.

The other thing is that while this unit was only around seven dollars. The shipping and handling was horrific. It was eight dollars and sixty eight cents for shipping and handling.

So now I'm out about sixteen bucks and still have to find a heater because I had to transfer my baby mollies which were about 9 weeks old to a bigger tank because they just couldn't live in that breeder any longer. So to shorten the story a bit, I went to Petsmart and forked out about eighteen dollars on a decent 15 watt heater which is perfect for five gallons.

Stay away from this heater unless it's for a goldfish bowl because that's all it can heat. Better yet, stay away from this heater unless you need to warm up a cup of coffee. It might take all day but at least it will get to seventy degrees.

5 out of 5 stars water heater   March 12, 2008

- Keeps the bowl at the right temperature at all times
- Adjusts the amount of heat let off automatically depending on the rooms' temperature

5 out of 5 stars Makes the betta happy   March 11, 2008

My betta fish's water was mostly in the 60-degree range, below a betta's ideal temperature (70-80F). As a result, the betta was very inactive. I bought this heater for a one-gallon bowl, and it increased the water temperature about 10 degrees. Now the betta is very active.

Even though the specs say it's designed for a 2-5 gallon tank, I'd still recommend it for a 1-gallon bowl. Just keep an eye on the ambient temperature because this heater does not have an automatic shutoff.
