Wouldn't know what to do without this book! January 7, 2009 This book is a total must have for a person that is new to owning a 40D. The 40D is my first digital camera and this book pretty much disects the camera for you giving you all the details on the functions and beyond! When I say beyond I refer to the author giving you quick helpful tips on how to take good pictures. Again, a must have for a first time 40D owner!
Superb book, and should be required reading December 24, 2008 I got the Canon 40d for my wife, who is a bit technophobic. she seriously dislikes programming her cell-phone, so I was a bit concerned about the camera.
This was a very smart move on my part, as she's latched on to the book incredibly. And it has gotten her to be very comfortable with the camera. It is a superb complement to the manual, and Canon should just include it as part of the package.
A case in point could be seen in the very first step, namely charging the battery. The manual gave no indication of how to tell when the battery was charged (did the light mean it was done, or still needed charging?). So we turned to the book and found the answer.
This was at the very first step, and it's a theme continued thoughout.
Myself, I'm at the opposite end, and have no trouble with picking up new technology. I still found this book indispensable. Particularly as I'm new to digital SLRs.
The photos and text are really well done.
So, let me just reiterate, this book should be a must for what I imagine are most people who invest in this camera, in order to get the most out of it.
A must have. December 22, 2008 Easy to follow, with the detail I want, plus clear explanations and examples. Cannon or local photo store would do well to include in purchase of camera.
good book..... December 2, 2008 generally good book , even not that specific but for beginner out there this is it, buy it, amazon doing a great job, thanks guys ......
Buy this book with your EOS 40D if you are new to dSLR. October 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Any first time dSLR owner who chooses to upgrade to the EOS 40D should buy this book with their camera.
I purchased this book with the camera about a month ago. This book does a great job of expanding on the information available in the owners manual. It is much easier to search and read, and the pictures make it much more useful.
There is also a small bit of information that expands beyond the narrow focus of the camera. What I am referring to are the chapters regarding lenses and editing RAW files. These are two topics that I didn't see covered in the user's manual that are included with this book.
