Good for the Price But Not Great for the Long Haul January 3, 2009 I have chemically relaxed African American hair, and this iron gets my thick and curly hair as poker straight even at the roots (even when I haven't relaxed it for months), and also creates really nice waves and curls. I like that it has adjustable temperatures, and can be clamped shut when not in use. However, the plate coating began rubbing off near the edges of the iron within a couple of weeks. Also, as someone else mentioned, on my model the "ready" light never blinks off. So one star off for durability and a (minor) glitch out of the box; although in this price range I'm not expected a ton of longevity but I take care of my products and wasn't anticipating replacing it within 6 months of purchase.
Not bad December 29, 2008 I needed a straightener after getting my hair cut short (without straightening, my hair becomes a big poofy mess). I didn't want to spend a fortune on one, and this one had all the things I needed and the price was good.
My hair is thick and curly (now that it's shorter) and this straightener did an OK job. My hair was not completely stick-straight, it still had a tiny bit of wave in it. It also did not stay straight for very long. After about two days it started curling up a little and needed a touch-up. However, it did feel very nice going through my hair and did not pull at all. My hair was also very shiny and soft.
Also, the straightener did not like the spots in my hair that were still damp. So I would make sure to blow-dry or make sure your hair is completely dry to make sure it straightens right.
I also noticed something. If you read the directions, it says the green light will blink while the iron is heating, and it reaches the temperature you want, the green light will go out. I noticed the green light was blinking the entire time I straightened my hair, about 30 minutes. I had it set on the highest temperature, and I am not sure if there is just a glitch with the light, or the straightener just did not heat up all the way, even after thirty minutes.
I would probably recommend this straightener for people with easier-to-straighten hair, not for very thick or curly hair. It works pretty well, but not what I would call great.
Works great for price December 27, 2008 I read the reviews on Amazon and decided to purchase mine at my local Wal Mart. For $16 this works great. Not only does it straighten, but it flips and it also curls. And my hair is naturally curly and it only took 15 minutes to straighten (I don't straighten my hair poker straight; I like a little fullness). What else can you ask for? Don't pay $100. This is worth it even if only lasts a year before replacing.
bought for occasional use, works well December 24, 2008 I have medium-short, very curly hair. I bought this flat iron after my stylist asked if she could use one on my hair the last time she cut it. I had never flat ironed my hair before but thought it was nice for something different. I like my curls most days and I am not the type of person to spend this much time on my hair everyday (it probably won't take so long once I've practiced), but it is nice to have the option to if I want. I paid $20 for this iron from Amazon and it seems to work well for my occasional use of once or twice per month. The 1 inch size is good for my length of hair.
Excellent Product November 26, 2008 I wanted a slimmer flat iron that what i currently have so I purchased this flat iron at Walmart November 25, 2008 for just under $16. To my good fortune, it is an excellent product. It works just as well as my more expensive flat irons. This is a great buy.
